How to Create the Right Mindset to Grow Your Business

3/2/2021

When people talk about what it takes to succeed in business, they tend to talk a lot about hard work, perseverance, and sometimes the importance of having “a head for business,” (whatever that means). What most people don’t talk about is making sure you have the right mindset to grow your business, which is too bad because your mindset is crucial to achieving your goals - much more so than your skill set or the number of hours you put in at the office.

In fact, two people can have the same skill set and put in the same number of hours, but if one has the right mindset and the other doesn’t, the first person will be much more likely to succeed in growing their business. The good news is that, if you don’t have the right mindset, you’re not doomed to failure because you can develop a growth mindset. Here’s how:

Focus on Your Goals

Picture
One of the best things you can do to ensure you achieve your goals is simply to focus on them. If it sounds too easy, try actually focusing on your goals for a solid five minutes. You’ll find there’s a difference between simple and easy. Is changing your mindset simple? Yes. Is it easy? No.

One of the best ways to focus on your goals is simply to write them down. Science has proven that just the act of writing something down makes it more likely we’ll remember it later, so write down your goals and be specific. How much do you want to earn? How many clients/customers do you need to get there? What’s your target date for achieving this goal? The more specific you can be, the more likely you are to achieve your goals.

Get Rid of Negative Stereotypes

When you think of a successful business person, do you think of Ebeneezer Scrooge? Or someone similarly known for hoarding their wealth and being selfish and cruel towards others? Believe it or not, holding onto these stereotypes can inhibit your ability to grow your business. No one wants to be Scrooge, and if you think growing your business means you have to be more like Scrooge, you won’t do what it takes.

The fact is you can be successful in business without losing your soul, but first you have to believe you can succeed in business without losing your soul.

Face Your Challenges

Running a business, whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been doing it for a while, comes with its own, unique set of challenges. The key is not to let yourself get overwhelmed by those challenges, but to accept them as part of the growth journey. This is another part of growing your business that’s easier said than done, especially when you’re tired and you feel like you’ve tried everything. Remember that there’s always one more way over (or around, or under) the hurdle, and sometimes you just need someone to show you the way, which leads me to my final point.

Ask for Help

Finally, asking for help is key to growing your business. For some reason, many entrepreneurs assume they should have all the answers. But the truth is no one has all the answers. So, rather than faking it ‘til you go broke, why not reach out to a business coach with decades of experience growing businesses to see how she can help you grow yours? Schedule your FREE clarity call now so we can start discussing strategies to grow your business.

    Why Morsels?

    Business advice,
    like chocolate chips,
    is best digested
a handful of morsels at a time.  I think we'd all agree that devouring a lot of either all at once can be too much for the average person to handle..
