Why Celebrate 2020?

12/17/2020

If you’ve been on any of my group coaching calls, you know I like to start each session by having everyone talk about what they’re celebrating before we move on to questions that I then get to answer for how people can grow their business. I like to do the same thing each year – I spend some time in December celebrating the year I had before sitting down to work on my strategy for the next year and I urge my clients to do the same.
I know 2020 has been rough for everyone, but I think that’s all the more reason to celebrate. When we’re all stuck at home, unable to see friends and family, and many of us have lost loved ones (or know people who have lost loved ones), it can be easy to focus on everything that went wrong this year. But even 2020 had some bright spots, and I believe in the value of focusing on the silver lining, rather than the cloud. So, let’s take a look at some reasons I think we should all celebrate 2020 before welcoming 2021.

Focus on the Good

As I mentioned above, it’s easy to focus on the bad when it feels like the world as we know it is tearing apart at the seams, but not only do I believe there’s always light, even in the darkest times, I also believe in the importance of focusing on that light when it’s so easy to get distracted by the dark.

There’s a saying that the things we focus on become our reality, and if we allow ourselves to believe the worst, then the worst is what we’ll get. So, even though I recognize that 2020 brought some challenges for us as a society and as individuals, I also know there have been some great accomplishments. I have watched my clients and friends pivot their businesses to account for the changing times, start new businesses, and attract new clients to grow their businesses, despite the challenges this year brought. Just because we’ve had some struggles in 2020 does not mean we have to let those struggles define 2021 for us.

Assess to Move Forward

As a business coach, it should come as no surprise that I’m all about moving forward, regardless of what life throws at you. But before we can move forward, we need to take a moment and reflect. What worked in 2020 and what didn’t?
Obviously, some things that would have been successful in a pre-pandemic world might not have worked out quite like you planned this year, but that’s OK. Take into consideration what does and does not work in a pandemic and post-pandemic world and factor that into your strategy for 2021.

    Why Morsels?

    Business advice,
    like chocolate chips,
    is best digested
a handful of morsels at a time.  I think we'd all agree that devouring a lot of either all at once can be too much for the average person to handle..
